What horse will have the best odds in the Belmont Stakes?

While the Bob Baffert-trained Rodriguez will be fancied by some as the potential wire-to-wire upset winner in the group, I will go in an entirely different direction with a one-run closer. Recent Peter Pan S. (G3) victor #1 Hill Road finished a rallying third in the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar in his first appearance in the states, and he flaunted his substantial late kick to be third in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) in his three-year-old debut, as well.

What I see in the Kentucky-bred is an improving horse who is bred to love the distance, a sophomore with positive recent works, and also an advantageous draw on the fence. Combine that with his human connections that have dominated the racing at this locale in recent years, and the up-and-coming colt checks a lot of boxes.

Belmont Stakes Official Live Odds

The morning-line odds for the Belmont Stakes, traditionally run in June three weeks after the Preakness Stakes, are typically released at the conclusion of the post-position draw, which is held on Wednesday of Belmont week. In recent years, the draw has been conducted during a late-morning ceremony at either Belmont Park or a location in Manhattan.

The current oddsmaker for the Belmont Stakes is Eric Donovan, who has held that position at the New York Racing Association since 2005.

Various television and online outlets offer coverage of the post draw and release of morning line odds.

Belmont odds are widely available online prior to the start of early Belmont betting on Friday and throughout the day on Saturday. Fair odds for Belmont can be available even earlier. Among the best places to find that information are at Brisnet.com and TwinSpires.com.

Unlike the Kentucky Derby, where as many as 20 horses are allowed to compete, and the Preakness, which can have a field of 14, the Belmont field is limited to a maximum of 16 starters. However, no renewal of the Belmont Stakes in the modern era has attracted a field that large. Fifteen horses started in the 1983 Belmont, while 14 broke from the gate in 1996 and 2013.
