#8 TED NOFFEY (4-5): Unbeaten son of Into Mischief has passed each of his trio of tests to date with aplomb and is the one to beat for Pletcher. The unblemished colt doesn’t need the lead in order to win, he has the tactical speed to be placed anywhere early, and the Spendthrift homebred is also proven at the distance, as well. John Velazquez will pilot the formidable juvenile.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Race History
Raced every year since the inaugural Breeders’ Cup meeting in 1984, the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is the premier race for male 2-year-olds in North America.
The race is so important to juvenile racing that in its 40-year history, only eight winners did not go on to take the Eclipse Award for Champion 2-Year-Old Male. Five of those Eclipse Award winners didn’t contest the Juvenile for a variety of reasons, among them the future Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, who missed the race through injury.
Winners have, however, found it difficult to go on to win Triple Crown races the following year. Timber Country (1994) was the first, going on to win the Preakness Stakes the following year. Years later, both Street Sense (2006) and Nyquist (2015) both won the Kentucky Derby the year after. FInally in 2021, Essential Quality (2020) went on to with the Belmont Stakes the following year.
Though the race has been dominated by North American horses, four European juveniles have succeeded: Vale of York, Wilko, Johannesburg, and Arazi.
Few moments in Breeders’ Cup history were more memorable than Arazi’s 1991 triumph. Racing on dirt for the first time, the French-trained colt settled second-last before beginning an amazing mid-race move in the back straight, blowing right by Bertrando on the final turn and winning under a hold by five lengths.
One of the most notable winners was Favorite Trick in 1997. His five-length victory not only secured him Champion 2-Year-Old Male, but he also became the first 2-year-old since Secretariat in 1972 to be named Horse of the Year. 2017 Winner Good Magic became the first horse to ever break his maiden at the Breeders' Cup Championships.
The BC Juvenile History
The $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is the richest 2-year-old race in North America. The 1 1/16 mile race, restricted to male 2-year-olds, is often a preview of the stars of the Triple Crown races for the following year. The Juvenile is a season-defining event, as the race often determines the Eclipse Award Champion 2-year-old male, and also the winter-book favorite for the Kentucky Derby.
Some notable achievements for past Juvenile winners include Timber Country (1995), who became the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to win one of the U.S. Triple Crown races for 3-year-olds when he won the 1995 Preakness Stakes. The 2006 winner, Street Sense, became the first to capture the Kentucky Derby, and the other Juvenile winner to win the Run for the Roses the following May was Nyquist (2015). 2020 winner Essential Quality was the odds-on favorite in the Kentucky Derby but struggled after losing early position out of the gate. While finishing fourth in the "Run For The Roses", he bypassed the Preakness and made his next start at the Belmont Stakes where he won by 1 1/4 lengths.
