2019 Pegasus World Cup Turf one-liners

If the $9 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) on dirt deserves the “one-liner” treatment, so does its new $7 million companion race on turf. The international distaffers are enticing as they get a 12-pound weight break from an evenly matched domestic crowd, but there’s plenty of intrigue to go around.

Here’s my summation of each Pegasus Turf contender in post order:

#1 MAGIC WAND – Aidan O’Brien filly is eligible to run up to her top European formlines at Gulfstream, considering that she’d be happier here than in the soggy Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1).

#2 YOSHIDA – Grade 1 winner on both dirt and turf sports the deepest resume of the home team but does not rate a standout at a short price.

#3 CHANNEL MAKER – Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1) hero had a progressive profile last season and now benefits from a seven-pound weight concession (for racing Lasix-free like the internationals).

#4 AEROLITHE – Japanese shipper has used her tactical speed to topple high-class males at Tokyo, and can achieve the same feat here if avoiding a pace war on the step up to 1 3/16 miles.

#5 NEXT SHARES – Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) upsetter would appreciate it if the forecast rain has a significant effect on the course.

#6 FAHAN MURA – Southern California speed merchant figures to serve up a demanding pace before tiring down the stretch.

#7 BRICKS AND MORTAR – Archrival of Yoshida during their sophomore days looks ready to fire second off the long layoff.

#8 DELTA PRINCE – Stronach Stables blueblood has upset potential in light of his solid form over shorter, and pedigree suggests that he’ll thrive with added ground.

#9 CATAPULT – Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) runner-up, in career form of late, stands to benefit from the lively pace.

#10 DUBBY DUBBIE – Longshot, who won for a $62,500 tag last out but went unclaimed, needs to do much better than in his past stakes attempts.
