$35,126 carryover enhances Tampa Bay Derby all-stakes Late Pick 5

March 9th, 2019

Saturday's all-stakes Late Pick 5 at Tampa Bay Downs is enhanced by a $35,126 carryover triggered when no one had a perfect ticket on Friday's card. Here's a look at how I'll be playing the sequence: Race 7 -- $75,000 Columbia #5 GLOBAL ACCESS (15-1) didn't fire in his turf debut but is bred to do well on the surface. By Giant's Causeway and out of a Grade 2 turf winner, he's a half to Toronto Cup scorer March to the Arch. #8 DIGITAL AGE (8-1) overcame some adversity winning first out for Chad Brown over this course. Concedes experience but hails from a respectable family. #9 ROYAL URN (6-1) could prove dangerous on the front end in a race that lacks much in the way of pace. Race 8 -- $100,000 Challenger #1 FLAMEAWAY (3-2) is the class of the field and should move forward off his seasonal return, but faces other speed here. #3 KILLYBEGS CAPTAIN (9-2), an easy winner of the $75,000 Pasco, stretches out here in an attempt to make it three-for-three over this surface. #5 BOURBON RESOLUTION (8-1) could be best of those who'll be doing their best running late. Race 9 -- $225,000 Endeavour (G2) #7 RYMSKA (5-2) was caught behind a false pace in the Suwannee River (G3) in her seasonal return. Too far back in the Matriarch (G1) a couple starts back, but her form is otherwise admirable. Our key in this sequence. Race 10 -- $200,000 Florida Oaks (G3) Our spread race as this came up highly competitive. #3 WINTER SUNSET (6-1), a daughter of Tapit and Winter Memories, could be any kind after two wins at Fair Grounds to start her career. #4 ELSA (6-1) was second to the above last time and reunited here with Joe Bravo, who gave her an excellent ride in winning the Jimmy Durante (G3) in November. #5 CONCRETE ROSE (7-2) won the Jessamine (G2) convincingly and perhaps didn't take to the soft ground in the Breeders' Cup.  #7 BLOWOUT (10-1) the least experienced of the two Chad Browns here, but bred to be any kind as a daughter of Dansili and French 1000 Guineas (G1) heroine Beauty Parlour. #9 WINNING ENVELOPE (8-1) shook off some rust when a distant fourth in the $100,000 Suncoast and figures much stronger returning to the turf. Race 11 -- $400,000 Tampa Bay Derby (G2) #7 WIN WIN WIN (5-2) has hung up some nice figs over elongated sprints and probably has the scope to deal with this slightly longer test. #4 DREAM MAKER (4-1) has yet to show his best stuff in stakes company, but comeback win was a doozy and perhaps can put it all together on a bigger stage for connections that have been down this road before. Here's the 50-cent ticket: 5,8,9 with 1,3,5 with 7 with 3,4,5,7,9 with 4,7 = $45. Good luck!   (Flameaway photo: S V Photography)
