A look at the $190,529 Pick 5 carryover at Indiana Grand

October 13th, 2018

An unexpected wagering highlight on Saturday is the $190,529 Pick 5 carryover at Indiana Grand, which covers the first five races on the card that begins at 6:05 p.m. (EDT). Here are some thoughts on the sequence.

Race 1

#3 THE PRESIDENCY (7-2) has placed twice on dirt and not at all on turf, but those grass attempts were on the NYRA circuit, at Gulfstream, and at Kentucky Downs. Surely fits better here. #9 G NINETEEN (10-1) got better when stretched out around two turns. Simply overmatched at Kentucky Downs last time.

Race 2

#8 ACES AND EIGHTS (3-1) gelded since his debut last November, where he showed brief speed on the main track at Churchill Downs. Intriguing half-mile training center work late last month in preparation for his return. #9 SPEEDY NOW (7-2) hit a wall late against maiden special weight company. At a more proper level here. #7 HORACE CHARLES (6-1) turned in one of his better efforts at this level in Cincinnati and has a productive trainer/jockey combo going for him.

Race 3

#3 AMERICAN MISSION (2-1) disappointed a bit on her return to action at Indiana last time considering her good tries over the summer. Reunited with Castanon today will take some catching in her claiming debut.

Race 4

#4 MAN OF BLUES (3-1) is a six-time winner over this track, is three-for-three at the distance, and drops a notch in class for this. Trainer Gary House seems to have got #5 JES JAA (8-1) back on the right track. Former Southern California mainstay was competitive on that far tougher circuit earlier this year.

Race 5

#3 BOLD CONCEPT (4-1) finally broke through with a belated maiden victory last time. Shortening back to a sprint perhaps won't prove too much of a hindrance. #5 C J S SUZIE BYU (7-2) beat the latter comfortably two back, and might improve off her debut against state-bred allowance types.

The 50-cent ticket:

3,9 with 7,8,9 with 3 with 4,5 with 3,5 = $12.
