Arlington Park stakes plays for Aug. 7
A pair of black-type races for Illinois-breds will highlight the Saturday action at Arlington Park. I am on two contenders that sit at a big price on the morning-line.
Race 6 -- Sharon N. Kirby Memorial S.
The one-mile turf test for three-year-old fillies boasts a competitive field of nine. There is an overflow of pace horses in the cast, which will lead to quick splits that will aid a horse coming from off the pace. The Chris Block-conditioned #3 Beyond Proper (10-1) can capitalize in her route debut.
Munnings filly has a fine pedigree to excel on the grass, and I fully expect the twice-raced bay to move forward making her first run beyond six panels. Javier Tavares will guide the value play of the field.
#1 Cat Attack (2-1), #6 Katie M’lady (5-2), and #7 Jolina (3-1), will all be used in my vertical exotics.
Wager
- $15 win and place #3 Beyond Proper ($30)
- $2 trifecta key 3 with 1,6,7 ($12)
Race 7 -- Richard P. Hazleton Memorial S.
The sophomore boys will travel one mile on the weeds in the second stakes race of the afternoon. I am not sure that recent maiden winner #6 Simple Logic (15-1) can upset this field at a big price, but I will surely include the colt in all of my plays. Son of Maclean’s Music ran the race of his life most recently on the main oval in his first route try, and the bay might have found his niche going long.
Simple Logic did run a good one when sprinting in his juvenile finale on the course, and Bradlee Rainwater wins at a fine 21% rate with his grassy runners, overall. Regular pilot Edgar Perez will be in the silks and will have this one just off of the early leaders to the top of the lane.
Stakes winner #7 Richiesgotgame (7-5) is the class of the field and will be tough with something close to his best performance. Gray son of Flashback was victorious in a lone prior try on this surface, and he possesses the versatility to win from on or off the pace.
Wager
- $10 win and place #6 Simple Logic ($20)
- $10 exacta box 6-7 ($20)
