Australian harness racing: Redcliffe rundown

Australian harness racing is set for BetAmerica horseplayers Wednesday, June 3, at 11 p.m. ET, which is Thursday afternoon, June 4, at Redcliffe Harness Racing Club in Queensland. 

Let's dive in a take a look at the 10-race card.

Race 1

#7 Teachers Pet will leave from the second row and is winless in 17 starts, but was shuffled last time out on the rail with nowhere to go. Though she needed urging late, the well-backed sophomore never had a path and finished third. 

In only her fourth appearance, #5 Maywyn Troubador was in that same race, but wasted steps wide and was caught in the death seat. The Dawsons are in a good spot to see her shine. 

Race 2

#2 Manoflisa was well supported at Redcliffe last time out but raced wide early and still managed to pace to a respectable finish. If she stays close and finds room, she could fly from these with saved strength.

#5 Kid Calvert has yet to make early foot work but the moment he lets loose his Badlands Hanover-bred speed will have them all chasing.

Race 3

Stamina is going to surface for #4 Somebeachsomegift, and this could be that time. A lone lead over three turns should do it and offer a decent price.

From a Queensland-bred group, #7 Nikalong Henry appealed to punters last time out, but the death seat did not appeal to his trip. The Mr Feelgood gelding can do better here.

Race 4

Last time out at Redcliffe, #2 Beef City Starzzz was apt to win, but after a rush to get the front early and an awkward retreat, he failed to get the top spot.

After good finishes at Albion, luck has not been engaged in the gelding’s trips. Peter Greig surely knows Redcliffe will be a profitable spot once he drives “Beef” out of harm’s way.

Beaten as a popular choice among punters last time at Redcliffe, #1 Tildalyn is apt to try a wire-to-wire victory for Steve Coombs.

Race 5

Two-year-olds with a single win under their saddlecloths will continue their education in this contest. American-breds deserve the most attention, starting with #4 Alex Tee, who is back from Albion and ready to pounce.

Then there’s #7 Sweet Lombo, who we had at first crack, when he paid an astounding 5-2 at Redcliffe,  before he lost as a public choice at Albion. 

Race 6

Time to give #3 Art Sunset one more chance. We said the same after he broke and lost all chance of getting into the mix two back and skipped him after that, when he stayed flat but was overmatched.

Experience may count here.

Race 7

Backers have been kind to #1 Cannan but may be disappointed after the Sportswriter 4-year-old did not live up to his backing last time out. They will also be disappointed if he wins at this price (3-1).

Another Sportswriter product, #4 Ritchie Bee, has been on a cashing spree and should be in the mix here.

Race 8

Darren Ebert’s #5 Whateley has won twice at Redcliffe and comes out of a good race at Albion, one we had last week, when The Hummer beat him. He could make it three in a row here.

Race 9

After he failed at Albion, #7 Targaryen Hanover returns to Redcliffe looking for a win. Stephanie Graham’s Art Major sophomore is 19-for-39 finishing in the top three spots and continues to show impressively, especially here.

Can you ever knock out #5 Lonestar Lad from threatening a field when it counts most? No, and not here, either. 

Race 10

A better win price than expected could be in store for #8 CC Jones, mostly because of his post. The Christian Cullen-bred 5-year-old made a couple costly moves in his recent three races and may benefit from one big swoop late.

Half of the time, #6 Impressive Diamond follows the winner to the finish line. Jack Butler’s mare is rarely not there.
