Australian racing picks for Goulburn and Ipswich
If you like your racing from Down Under, there’s plenty to like about tonight!
New Zealand’s Wanganui kicks things off at 6:18pm ET, before two Australian harness meetings and four Aussie Thoroughbred meetings become available to BetAmerica horseplayers from 10:05pm ET.
Here’s a couple of picks for the card at Goulburn and Ipswich.
Goulburn, Race 1: #4 California Sky
Connections sure paid a pretty penny for this youngster by North American sire Medaglia D’Oro and out of Group 1 winner Peggy Jean. At the Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast in January of 2019, the hammer went down at a million Australian dollars!
California Sky made a reasonable debut at Kembla Grange toward the end of June. That run was over six furlongs, and he gave every indication that he would appreciate the step up to eight furlongs, which he will contest tonight.
#1 Mcgeehan is certainly the horse to beat, but I think California Sky can give him a run for his money at decent odds. Look for him to flash home late from off the pace.
Ipswich, Race 2: #2 Missile Mania
Missile Mania is still a maiden after nine starts, but he has been knocking on the door and can break through tonight.
In his sast start at the Gold Coast, he defied his long odds to flash home late and hit the board. He’ll be fitter from that first-up run and the extra furlong will suit him. In his only second-up attempt, he placed at the Sunshine Coast.
It is great to see jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester stick, and let’s hope the combo can get the job done at nice odds.
Good luck!
