Australian racing picks for Hawkesbury and Warwick

July 1st, 2020

Horseplayers are once again spoiled for choice tonight, with four Australian Thoroughbred meetings and two harness meetings available to watch and wager on via the BetAmerica app and website.

As it is in the middle of winter Down Under, many tracks around this time of year are affected by the combination of rain and cooler mornings and evenings, so it's always best to check out the latest track conditions and handicap accordingly.

Generally, Queensland tracks are the exception, where year-round warm weather means good-rated tracks. That's the case with Warwick tonight, where racing is on a good surface.

Here are a couple picks for racing at Warwick and Hawkesbury.

Hawkesbury, Race 1: #3 Our Fox

This is a tricky race to start proceedings at the Western Sydney track, but I like how Our Fox has been going and he represents great value.

In his last start in Bathurst, which also happens to the home of Australia's biggest car race, Our Fox was gallant in defeat, after a tough, on-pace run over the 6 furlongs.

He should lead again tonight, and the half-furlong drop in distance will be in his favor. Jockey Mitchell Bell sticks, which is another good sign, and the horse is trained locally at Hawkesbury.

The 15-2 odds on the morning line look generous.

Warwick, Race 2: #12 Miss Bulitz

This Troy Pascoe-trained filly disappointed as the favorite in her last start but ran into one better over the final stages and was collared on the post.

Miss Bulitz is drawn well tonight, and with her early pace, she should be able to lead and will prove difficult to run down. With claiming apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson in the saddle, she gets a little weight relief, which will also help her cause.

Good luck!
