Australian racing picks for Royal Randwick and the Gold Coast

September 18th, 2020

Things are really starting to heat up Down Under, and tonight marks the start of Sydney’s Everest Carnival.

The Group 1 George Main Stakes is the feature race on tonight’s card at Royal Randwick, and I think #6 Verry Elleegant will prove very tough to beat, after she resumed with an impressive win in the Group 1 Winx Stakes at Randwick last month.

BetAmerica horseplayers can enjoy three other Thoroughbred meetings from Australia tonight, including the Gold Coast, Newcastle, and Ipswich.

Here are a couple more picks to get your night of Aussie action underway.

Royal Randwick, Race 7: #3 Classique Legend

This locally trained gelding, from the barn of trainer Les Bridge, resumes from a 15-week layoff tonight, but he won a barrier trial at Newcastle in impressive fashion last month.

Bridge has been forced to take his time with the horse, after a solid Sydney campaign this time last year, where he had a couple Group 2 placings and was unlucky in the The Everest.

Classique Legend was bound for Hong Kong, but connections decided to keep him in Australia when COVID-19 hit. While the trainer was unable to get the horse ready for an autumn campaign, Classique Legend made a winter appearance at Royal Randwick in the Bob Charley S. and won it with a leg in the air, even though he was not anywhere near full fitness.

I expect him to run very well fresh again tonight. It is a full field of 12 runners, so there should be at least 4-1 available.

Gold Coast, Race 1: #1 Mishani Miss

It’s hard to see Mishani Miss being beaten here.

She has won two of her four starts this campaign, including an impressive victory against tougher than these at Doomben last time out.

The extra distance will suit her, and she doesn’t mind the sting out of the ground, either.

We’re not going to get an amazing price, but it will be enough to help us build a bank early.

Good luck!
