Bet-Back Barrage At Hoosier; Meadowlands Quartet For Froshes

At Hoosier, our Breeders Crown alumni bet-backs from the 2019 finals, were much the best in four of the track’s featured sophomore events, and the raw payouts do not seem so low when you consider no handicapping was necessary to choose the plays.
The Ice Dutchess ($4.20, $2.60, $2.10) won easily in the filly trot. No exacta for us here, as Aunt Rose (12-1) finished fourth.
The filly pace went to our top choice, Sunny Dee ($3.60, $2.80, $2.10). Here we nailed the $25.10 exacta cold with second-choice, JK American Beauty ($8.80, $4.60). Our triple partner, Lady Capulet (96-1) finished ninth.
In the colt trot our top three selections carved the exacta and triple. Dont Letem ($3.80, $3.00, $2.40) finished first, Chin Chin Hall ($3.00, $2.10) got second for a $2 exacta worth $3.50 and third was Pilot Discretion ($3.00) completing a 50-trifecta worth $4.65.
The colt pace was won by our second choice, De Los Cielos Deo ($10.40, $3.20, $2.80) as our first choice, Air Force Hanover (7-1), broke and was eliminated, finishing ninth.
Saturday, Nov. 1
There were four Kindergarten Classic finals at the Meadowlands.
There was only one Breeders Crown alumni winner, our choice, Marloe Hanover ($7.40, $3.40, $2.20). Another finished second—Dip Me Hanover ($4.80, $3.00)—to complete an exacta worth $15.60. One more, Major Betts ($3.20) finished third. Back Of The Neck finished off the board.
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 40 active horses (a 10-percent win hit rate and a 38-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate).

Horses racing in the high-class events like the Breeders Crown are not the only horses with rising values. Their sires are benefiting from their offspring’s earnings. Diamond Creek Farm, for one, announced that Father Patrick’s stud fee has been increased for the 2020 breeding season, rising to $30,000. Father Patrick is currently the leading sire of average earnings for freshmen and is second in sophmore average earnings. He is the sire of millionaire Greenshoe and Breeders Crown champion Amigo Volo.
Watch and Wager LLC presents its eighth season of harness racing at Cal-Expo, starting next week on Saturday, Nov. 9. Beginning the following week, the trotters and pacers will be in action on Friday and Saturday evenings with a first post each night at 6:10 p.m. Pacific Time. Purses for the meeting are raised 6 percent after being raised 8 percent during the 2018-‘19 session. The horse population looks solid for the new season qualifying races were held Nov. 2. Cal-Expo
The 36th Breeders Crown held last week at Woodbine Mohawk Park was “a huge success” according to John Campbell, president of the Hambletonian Society. “We couldn’t be happier with this year’s Breeders Crown,” he said. “Feedback from everyone was extremely positive. From the hospitality, to the facility, to the attention to detail, the event was a huge success.” The two-day event, generated a Canadian record total handle of $6.6 million wagered.
Horse of the Year for 1993, Staying Together, passed on Oct. 28 at the Kentucky Horse Park, where he retired. At the age of 30, the gelding was put to sleep due to the rigors of old age. He went to Kentucky in 1995 and “became a close member of the Horse Park,” said Laura Prewitt, Executive Director. Sired by Panorama, Staying Together completed his pacing career at six with 46 wins in 95 starts, earning $1,692,832. In 1993 he won 21 of 26 races, three of them faster than 1:50. One of those wins, at The Meadowlands, was at the time the fastest race mile in harness history, 1:48.2.
