Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Monday, June 15
Tampa Bay Downs, Race 4: Allowance/optional claiming (5 1/2 furlongs, 1:57 p.m. ET)
The speedy frontrunner #6 Princess Livia (2-1 on the morning line) hasn’t missed the trifecta in nine starts for Tampa’s leading trainer Gerald Bennett and is 2-for-2 dashing 5 1/2 furlongs over the local oval.
The 4-year-old daughter of Drill enters Monday’s test relatively fresh, with just two starts under her belt this year, including a powerful, 9 1/4-length romp in a $16,000 claiming event for horses who had never won three races.
Princess Livia is cutting back slightly in distance, after she finished third in a 6-furlong sprint at this class level April 3, when she came home just a half-length behind next-out allowance winner My Girl Annie.
With Brisnet Speed ratings of 85 and 82 this season, Princess Livia is the fastest filly in the field and stands out as the runner to beat.
We’ll bet Princess Livia to win and play her on top of an exacta, with #5 Itsherluckyday (7-2), a stretch runner returning to the main track following an unsuccessful foray on grass.
$20 to win on #6 Princess Livia
$5 exacta: 6 with 5
Total: $25
Good luck!
