Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Thursday, June 25
Churchill Downs, Race 8: Allowance/optional claiming (6 furlongs, 4:46 p.m. ET)
#2 Seven Nation Army (5-1 on the morning line) ran into a budding superstar when he faced spectacular sprinter Volatile in the 6-furlong Aristides S. at Churchill Downs three weeks ago.
Under the circumstances, Seven Nation Army ran a game race. He battled for the lead through fast splits of :21.48 and :44.36, then understandably weakened to finish fourth, beaten a length for second place by stakes winner Honest Mischief.

Two starts back, Seven Nation Army used stalking tactics to win a 6-furlong allowance at Oaklawn Park by 1 3/4 lengths, and he earned a career-best 99 Brisnet Speed rating.
Dropping back down the class ladder can trigger a rebound for Seven Nation Army, whose 5-1 morning-line odds are enticing in this competitive field. If he improves at all in his second start since March, Seven Nation Army can land in the winner’s circle.
$25 to win on #2 Seven Nation Army
Good luck!
