Churchill Downs, Race 9: $30,000 maiden claiming (7 furlongs, 5:18 p.m. ET)
In this large field of maiden claimers, the first-time starter #7 Kid Shelleen (5-1 on the morning line) offers appeal for hot trainer Brad Cox.
A son of Cairo Prince, out of the Marlin mare Golden Marlin, Kid Shelleen sold for $100,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to the graded stakes-winning sprinter Let It Ride Mom.

Kid Shelleen has been posting quick workouts at Keeneland, and Cox wins at a 23% rate with horses debuting in maiden claiming races, so there is no reason to think Kid Shelleen can’t fire a big effort first time out. We’ll take a shot betting this Rockingham Ranch runner to win.
$20 to win on #7 Kid Sheleen
Good luck!
