BetAmerica’s horse racing pick of the day: June 8, Lone Star Park

Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.

Monday, June 8

Lone Star Park, Race 8: Allowance (1 1/16 miles, 6:15 p.m. ET)

#2 Sir Rick (6-5 on the morning line) figures to be tough to beat, as he is dropping in class out of two tough stakes races.

The speedy son of Paynter got burned up chasing a blazing pace in the 1 1/8-mile Oaklawn S., then was overmatched when he faced some of the nation’s best 3-year-old sprinters in the 6-furlong Bachelor S.

Three starts back, Sir Rick had a much easier time of things, when he cruised to victory by four lengths in the 1 1/16-mile Mine That Bird Derby at Sunland Park.

There isn’t much speed in Monday’s field, so Sir Rick should be able to set modest fractions on the front end. High-percentage trainer Robertino Diodoro has been hot at Lone Star, where he has won at a 22% clip, so let’s bet Sir Rick heavily to win and hope his recent disappointing runs lead to higher-than-warranted odds.

$30 to win on #2 Sir Rick

Good luck!
