Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Monday, Oct. 5
Presque Isle Downs, Race 5: Presque Isle Downs Debutante S. (6 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta, 6:25 p.m. ET)
In this competitive sprint for 2-year-old fillies, #3 Anoint (12-1 on the morning line) appears to have a live shot at victory.
A classily bred daughter of Temple City, out of the stakes-placed Sky Classic mare Warm Glow, Anoint was an impressive debut winner against Pennsylvania-breds Sept. 21, when she rallied strongly from far off the pace to win by 3 1/4 lengths.
Trainer Johnathan Sheppard has gone 8-for-30 (27%) at Presque Isle this season and strikes at a 21% rate with last-out maiden winners, which suggests Anoint will be primed for a big effort in her second start. A :47.60 half-mile workout from the starting gate Sept. 21 adds to the appeal.
At 12-1, Anoint is worth a win bet and, we'll key her under “ALL” in the exacta.
$12 to win on #3 Anoint
$1 exacta: ALL with 3 ($8)
Total: $20
Good luck!
