Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
Keeneland, Race 7: Jessamine (G2, 1 1/16 miles on turf, 4:25 p.m. ET)
Three fillies strike me as standouts in this “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).
#5 Ingrassia (6-1 on the morning line) is arguably the most interesting. The stoutly bred daughter of Medaglia d’Oro rallied boldly from behind a slow pace to win her debut at Saratoga for trainer Chad Brown. The 100 Brisnet Late Pace rating she posted was excellent.

But #6 Aunt Pearl (3-1) wired her first start at Churchill Downs by five lengths for trainer Brad Cox, who strikes at a 26% rate with last-out maiden winners. And #10 Spanish Loveaffair (7-2) has gone 2-for-2 in Florida, where she most recently won the Sharp Susan S. comfortably. Both have speed and could enjoy tactical advantages over Ingrassia if the early pace is modest.
Let’s box these three fillies in the exacta and trifecta.
$4 exacta box: 5,6,10 ($24)
$1 trifecta: 5,6,10 ($6)
Total: $30
Good luck!
