Presque Isle Downs, Race 1: Maiden special weight (6 furlongs, 4:45 p.m. ET)

#3 Snowy Morning (7-5 on the morning line) and #1 Bentley’s Palace (5-2) are the favorites, after they finished second and fourth, respectively, in a maiden special weight for Pennsylvania-breds over this track Aug. 25. They’ll cut back slightly in distance for Monday’s race at the same class level.

But from a Brisnet Speed rating perspective, #4 Shomethesisters (3-1) is the faster filly. After she cracked the trifecta in a pair of maiden special weights against Pennsylvania-breds last year, Shomethesisters stepped into open company for a $17,500 maiden claiming race Aug. 27 and finished third, with a solid 69 Brisnet Speed rating, which exceeds the par figure (68) for Monday’s class level and distance at Presque Isle Downs.

Trainer Randall Russell wins at a 20% rate with runners transitioning from maiden claiming to maiden special weight company, and Shomethesisters is eligible to improve in her second start of the season. Let’s bet Shomethesisters to win and key her in the top to slots of a trifecta.
