Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Thursday, Sept. 17
Churchill Downs, Race 2: Allowance (1 1/8 miles, 1:14 p.m. ET)
#4 Wild Love (4-5 on the morning line) is a heavy favorite to win this allowance race for fillies and mares.
A 3-year-old daughter of Candy Ride, Wild Love broke her maiden by 11 1/2 lengths over this track and distance, before she finished second in a 1 1/8-mile allowance at Saratoga. The quality of the latter race was demonstrated when the third-place finisher, Makingcents, came back to win Saratoga’s 1 1/8-mile Fleet Indian S. in her next start.

With Brisnet Speed ratings of 89 and 87 under her belt, Wild Love is the fastest filly in Thursday’s field. She also has the tactical speed to be a factor from the outset under jockey Ricardo Santana, who retains the mount for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Adding to the appeal, Wild Love has posted a couple bullet workouts since her last race.
Let’s play Wild Love on top of a trifecta, with #1 Singita Dreams (5-1), #3 Storm At Sea (3-1), and #6 Extra Attention (9-2) underneath.
$5 trifecta: 4 with 1,3,6 with 1,3,6 ($30)
Good luck!
