BetAmerica’s horse racing pick of the day: Sept. 7, Del Mar
We turn our attention to Del Mar, where the turf meets the surf, for our Labor Day picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Race 9: Del Mar Juvenile Turf S. (1 mile on turf, 8:00 p.m. ET)
#10 Rombauer (9-2 on the morning line) made a fantastic impression in his July 25 debut over this course and 1-mile distance. Breaking slowly under high-percentage jockey Juan Hernandez, Rombauer rated in seventh place for much of the journey, shifted out several times for racing room in the homestretch, and finally dashed the closing furlong in ~:11.30 to win by half a length.
Trained by Michael McCarthy, this son of Twirling Candy has the turn-of-foot necessary to be a stakes-caliber grass horse. Rombauer’s rivals in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf don’t appear particularly formidable (several are trying the lawn for the first time), so let’s bet Rombauer to win and call it a day.
$25 to win on #10 Rombauer
Good luck!
