BetAmerica’s horse racing pick of the day: Sept. 9, Kentucky Downs

September 9th, 2020

We head to Kentucky Downs today for our weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.

Kentucky Downs Race 9: Tapit S. (1 mile and 70 yards on turf, 5:32 p.m. ET)

Aside from a troubled seventh-place effort against much tougher company in the Fort Marcy (G2), #12 Temple (10-1 on the morning line) has been a picture of consistency since being claimed by Mike Maker. A 4-year-old son of Temple City, Temple has cracked the trifecta in seven of his nine starts for Maker and competed with aplomb against future Grade 1 winners Halladay and Aquaphobia during the winter at Gulfstream Park.

Temple enters the Tapit S. off a charging third-place effort in the Mystic Lake Mile at Canterbury Park, beaten just a neck by next-out winner Tut’s Revenge in the snappy time of 1:33.17. Temple has already run well over the tricky course at Kentucky Downs, finishing third in the 2019 Dueling Grounds Derby, and Maker has won at a solid 18% rate over the local oval since 2015.

Outside posts have an advantage traveling 1 mile and 70 yards at Kentucky Downs, so at 10-1, Temple is worth betting to win and playing under "ALL" in the exacta.

$9 to win on #12 Temple
$1 exacta: ALL with 12 ($11)
Total: $20

Good luck!
