Leading Quarter Horse trainer Paul Jones

This weekend will be a big one for the California native. He has Ferrari GT entered in the $1.1 million Texas Classic Futurity (G1) on Saturday at Lone Star Park. On Sunday evening, he will saddle Solid Connection in the Z. Wayne Griffin Director Trials at Los Alamitos. The winner and top finishers in the 400-yard race will lock up one of the remaining berths to the prestigious $600,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos.

Jones is American Quarter Horse racing’s all-time leader in money earned with over $76.4 million and second in victories with 3,838. He is the undisputed leader at Los Alamitos in Cypress, California with over 3,325 wins including 300 stakes victories. He has been honored a record 13 times as AQHA champion trainer, beginning in 2002, when he conditioned Whosleavingwho, winner of the Grade 1, Champion of Champions. Jones, who will turn 50 in November, is also a force at Ruidoso Downs, saddling Noconi (2008) and Inseperable (2009) in the All American Derby (G1). He has also won the All American Futurity (G1) three times with Teller Cartel (2005); No Secrets Here (2006) and Running Brook Gal (2009).

Jones celebrated his 50th birthday on November 2. It is a sure bet that the noted Quarter Horse conditioner will have additional cause to celebrate before 2015 is over!
