Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 2018 Pedigree Profiles

BABY NINA is a daughter of Flatter who was bred in Ohio. She is out of a dam by More Than Ready whose first two foals to race are multiple stakes winners against Ohio-bred company. This ain’t Ohio.

BELLAFINA is a daughter of Quality Road, the sire of champion fillies Abel Tasman and Caledonia Road, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) last year. Bellafina’s stakes-placed dam, Akron Moon, is by Malibu Moon and accumulated $87,000 on track. Akron Moon’s first foal is Diamond King, a multiple Grade 3-placed dual stakes winner of $341,000. He was a two-year-old stakes winner who came back to run well at three years-old. Bellafina is Akron Moon’s second foal to race, and Quality Road females have done great lately.

CASSIES DREAMER is by Flatter, who has sired numerous graded stakes winners going two turns on the dirt. Her unraced dam is by War Front and this is the mare’s only foal to race. War Front was a top dirt sprinter as a runner but has turned into a top turf sire. Don’t think this filly has enough pedigree.

COOKIE DOUGH is by Brethren, who won his career debut at two going six furlongs in 1:08 and change. He came back at Churchill Downs and beat allowance foes going a mile then won the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) for his lone graded score. Cookie Dough’s dam is by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Fusaichi Pegasus, but the mare has produced very little. Her second dam, Jena Jena, was very fast but never stretched out in distance.

JAYWALK is from the first crop to race of Cross Traffic, who is off to a decent start at stud. He won the Whitney Stakes (G1) in his first try at two turns and is bred well enough to pass on stamina. Jaywalk’s dam is by sprinter Orientate and has produced three winners from three other foals to race, including a two-turn stakes winner.

REFLECT is by Trappe Shot, who has shown the ability to sire middle-distance graded winners. The average winning distance of his four crops to race is still a low 6.5 furlongs. Reflect might get her stamina from her dam, the Scat Daddy mare Scat Patty, who is a half-sister to a Grade 3 winner going two turns. Reflect’s second dam is by Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Touch Gold, and Trappe Shot is a son of Tapit, so there is plenty of stamina in her pedigree.

RESTLESS RIDER is by Distorted Humor, who has sired winners of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes (G1) and Belmont Stakes. Her dam, Silky Serenade, is by Unbridled’s Song, who sired the winner of the Travers Stakes (G1), Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), Pegasus World Cup (G1) and Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) in the form of Arrogate, so there is plenty of stamina at first and second glance. Silky Serenade’s only win came going 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt and she is a half-sister to a Grade 2-winning juvenile going two turns.

SERENGETI EMPRESS is by Alternation, who was a Grade 2 winner and dual Grade 3 victor as a four-year-old going two turns on dirt. He has gone on to sire a Grade 3 winner going two turns on the dirt from his first crop to race. Serengeti Empress’ unraced dam, Havisham, is by Bernardini, who is a terrific sire of stamina on dirt. The rest of her dam side pedigree is from Argentina.

SIPPICAN HARBOR is by Kentucky Derby winner Orb, who has had two crops to race and has sired 41 winners so far. Her unraced dam, the Deputy Minister mare Blossomed, is a half-sister to a track record-setting Grade 3 winner. Blossomed has produced six winners from seven foals to race, including Grade 3-placed stakes winner Bodacious Babe.

SPLASHY KISSES is by Blame, who beat Zenyatta in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic and also captured the Stephen Foster (G1) and Clark Handicap (G2) at Churchill Downs the same year. Splashy Kisses’ dam, the Cherokee Run mare Indian Valley, won twice on turf in Great Britain and is a half-sister to two minor stakes horses.

VIBRANCE is by Violence, who sires his share of middle-distance stakes winners. The filly is out of the Dynaformer mare Block, a three-time winner during her time on track. Block’s first foal to race is Lideris, a Group 1 winner in Peru. Vibrance’s second dam is by Danzig and her third dam is by Damascus. Her pedigree looks like a perfect blend of brilliance and stamina.
