My Breeders' Cup Turf Picks

The Breeders' Cup decided to go back to a more traditional BC with the Mile, Turf, and Distaff all a part of the late Pick 4. Those looking for a free square need look no further than the Breeders' Cup Turf where the exceptional Enable should dominate her opponents.

I often go against even money morning line favorites like Enable. But, no horse appears capable of beating her if she's on top of her game. Keep reading for why Enable's the lock on Saturday's Breeders' Cup card along with info on the horses that should finish in the superfecta with Enable.

Enable Looks Like the Lock of the Day

1. Enable 1/1

John Gosden trains the 4-year-old filly that should complete the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Breeders' Cup Turf double on Saturday. Enable has 9 wins from 10 lifetime starts. She finished third in her only race, a conditions stakes event. That was her first against winners.

Since then, she's been one of the top horses in the world. She won the Arc de Triomphe as a 3-year-old. She repeated that feat in early October when beating Sea of Class and Cloth of Stars. Sea of Class and Cloth of Stars might have a shot to take her down in this. No other horse entered should unless she didn't travel well, or just doesn't feel like running on Nov. 3.

3. Waldgeist 9/2

A few horses in this could, if Enable's not on top of her game, upset the odds on chalk. Waldgeist is one of those horses. He provided a thrill when finishing fourth behind Enable, Sea of Class, and Cloth of Stars in the Arc de Triomphe. He mustn't make up much ground while he's beaten some heavy hitting turf horses like Cloth of Stars and Talismanic this year.

He's going great. If Enable doesn't show up with her best, this 4-year-old colt should be right there to grab the win money.

2. Magical 10/1

After she finished 10th to Enable in the Arc de Triomphe, trainer Aidan O'Brien entered her in the Group 1 Qipco British Champions where she beat a decent mare, Coronet, by a length. Aidan wanted her to find some confidence after Enable soundly dominated her in the Prix. She'll put in a good run, good enough for third, but it's hard to see her making up ground on Enable or Waldgeist.

4. Glorious Empire 12/1

The 7-year-old gelding ran great when winning the Grade 2 Bowling Green and the Grade 1 Sword Dancer this summer at Saratoga. Jockey Julien Leparoux nursed Glorious Empire on the lead in the Sword Dancer. He'll probably try the same tactics because the only other speed in the BC Turf, Hunting Horn, breaks from post-position 13.

Leparoux and Glorious Empire are 3-0 in their last 3 races together. Glorious Empire has an outside shot to steal it on the front end if Hunting Horn doesn't provide too much pace pressure and Waldgeist, Magical, and Enable don't fire.
