Chaos Theory a colt to watch

Race 6 at Fair Grounds on Sunday was for sophomores going about 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. A solid field of youngsters went postward and a first-time starter proved to be tons the best. And I think the winner, CHAOS THEORY, is going to be a really nice one.

Trained by Mark Casse, the $260,000 weanling purchase didn’t break well or show much speed in his debut, tracking in ninth among 12 runners. Chestnut colt was travelling in comfortable fashion, though, and he began to improve as the field approached the turn for home.

Chaos Theory still had work to do inside the final two furlongs but made it look easy while accelerating with excellent energy. And I liked the professionalism he displayed splitting runners en route to a most impressive tally.

The Stonestreet colorbearer did switch back to his left lead for the final few jumps but he was geared down late by pilot Brian Hernandez. And Chaos Theory didn’t slow down upon reaching the wire, continuing to draw well clear in the gallop-out.

From a pedigree standpoint, Chaos Theory does not come from a dynamic immediate family. But the son of Curlin figures to receive an abundance of turf influence from his lineage and distance shouldn’t be an issue.

It’s really hard to know what Chaos Theory defeated on Sunday as he registered just an 81 BRIS Speed figure for his work. But this colt was so visually impressive to me and judging by the way he powered home past the wire, Chaos Theory could have plenty more to offer moving forward.
