Churchill Downs: Price plays for the Single 6 mandatory jackpot dispersal

September 5th, 2020

Whether you're an experienced Pick 6 player or just curious about giving it a try, Saturday is the perfect day to get involved in the Single 6 at Churchill Downs.

The bet has a 20-cent minimum, there's a $143,355 carryover, and there will be a mandatory payout of the entire pool.

The Single 6 sequence covers Race 9 through Race 14, an all-graded stakes sequence that ends in the Kentucky Derby (G1). Thanks to the carryover and mandatory payout, you can construct a reasonably-priced ticket and make a big score even if you like a favorite (like Derby star Tiz the Law) along the way

If anyone but #10 Therideofalifetime (7-5) wins the Iroquois (G3), the second leg of the Single 6, bettors with live tickets will be on their way to an excellent score. Several of these 2-year-olds are well-set to take a step up and make a race of the Iroquois at big prices. They include #8 Midnight Bourbon (6-1), who cruised in a maiden special weight dirt mile at Ellis Park last out for top-notch 2-year-old trainer Steve Asmussen, and #1 Drop Anchor (15-1) for Kenny McPeek, who does not win often with first-time starters, but whose debut winners tend to hit back hard.

The second-to-last leg of the Single 6, the Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic (G1), is another good place to look for a price. #1 Factor This (3-1) and #3 Rockemperor (7-2) will be well-bet, but neither looms large enough over the field to justify a short price. Consider including #6 Mr Dumas (12-1). The Mike Maker trainee has tactical speed, and his close second in the Bernard Baruch (G2) last time shows he is going the right way. Plus, he is already a winner going 1 1/8 miles on the Churchill Downs grass.

Just a 20-cent minimum puts you in competition for a $143,355 carryover and a mandatory payout. So, get your picks together for Races 9-14 Saturday at Churchill Downs, build a ticket, and play the Single 6.

Good luck!
