Churchill Downs releases 2018/2019 Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule
The Road to the Kentucky Derby (RTKD) schedule made up of points races toward a starting berth in the 2019 Kentucky Derby (G1) has been unveiled by Churchill Downs. The 2018/2019 series is comprised of 35 races, with 19 making up the “Prep Season” portion and 16 encompassing the “Championship Series” segment.
During the Prep Season, all but one of the races will be worth 10-4-2-1 points. The exception is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), which will award 20-8-4-2 points. The majority of the races during the Championship Series will offer up 50-20-10-5 points, but seven of the major three-year-old preps will be worth 100-40-20-10.
The Road to the Kentucky Oaks, offering points to the Kentucky Oaks (G1), features the same setup and covers 30 total races split evenly between the Prep Season and Championship Series.
Churchill will also continue the European Road to the Kentucky Derby and the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby.
The Road to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks kicks off Saturday under the Twin Spires with the Iroquois Stakes (G3) and Pocahontas Stakes (G2), respectively.
