Churchill Downs Spot Plays for Friday, November 22

Forecasted wet weather could put a slight damper on Friday's program at Churchill Downs, but opportunities will still abound on the 10-race card. The back half of the card, especially, has attracted healthy field sizes. Here are a couple runners we'll have our eye on.

Race 8

#14 Loaded (5-1) will need a couple scratches to draw in from the AE list, but looks mighty dangerous despite the fact she'll have to break from an outside post. The daughter of Ghostzapper appears as if she'll relish the stretch-out to two turns here having been second best in her first two, both of which were around one turn.

The quality of fillies she's been facing point her out as a major threat. In her debut at Keeneland she ran into Turtle Trax, who subsequently beat allowance company over the Churchill strip. Last time, in the slop, Loaded was runner-up to Slam Dunk, who had already placed in the Frizette (G1).

Trainer Rusty Arnold seemingly has a promising filly on his hands, and she can take a step forward here if she gets a chance to run.

Race 9

Whether this first-level allowance for fillies and mares stays on the turf remains to be seen, but #7 Miss Bigly (5-1) figures to be a player regardless of surface. She arrived in Kentucky in September following two improved efforts over the turf in Southern California, but ran into traffic trouble late in her debut over this course and missed the board.

She was subsequently entered and started in two races moved from the turf to the main track. Miss Bigly belatedly graduated in dominant fashion over the Indiana Grand mud, and last time weakened late to third over the Churchill slop after racing closer to the pace than usual in her first stab in allowance company.

Trainer Keith Desormeaux has had his stock ready to run this meet, with a 1-2-2 record from his first six starters. Brian Hernandez picks up the mount, and seemingly looms a threat with a clean trip on either surface.
