Dick Powell’s Australian Pick of the Week for November 13

Race 2 at Seymour (Australia A) on Wednesday night is a seven-furlong maiden for three-year-olds and up going around a wide left-handed turn. The track designation is Good-4 so it should be favorable to most of the runners.

#3 BORONDINO DREAM ran well in his career debut back in May going 6 ½ furlongs on a Good track. He came back on Soft going and could not overcome post 14 in a 14-runner field. Off for three months, he ran well in a barrier trial at Cranbourne then came back at Hamilton and showed high speed before weakening on Soft going with an amateur rider. Now, the son of So You Think comes back on Good turf from an inside post and if he can win the run into the turn, Borondino should be tough to catch with Jordan Childs.

#4 MIGHTY BEAU showed little in two barrier trials then made his race debut three weeks ago, showing good speed before weakening. His speed rating doesn’t have to improve much to compete with these and he only picks up three pounds. With a race under his belt, Mighty Beau should settle better and he gets a rider switch to Damien Thornton – seven for 50 lately. Trainer Danny O’Brien, who won the recent Melbourne Cup (G1) and the Kennedy Oaks (G1) last Thursday, is 11 for 50 lately.

#7 DIHHI has had five chances to break her maiden but based on speed ratings, she has a shot in here. Last out at Ballarat, she was an even third on a Heavy track but rallied for third over Good going two starts back going six furlongs when blinkers were added for the first time. She should appreciate the distance and ground today with Dean Holland (seven for 50 lately) back aboard. Daughter of Ben Hoffa took a little money last out and decent single-digit win odds would be a positive indicator for her chances.

Borondino Dream will relish the firmer ground, which will play to his gate speed.
