Race 8 at Flemington (Australia A) on Wednesday night is the Kennnedy Oaks (G1) for three-year-old fillies going 1 9/16 miles around three left-hand turns. The track designation was not available at press time, but it was Soft-6 for the Melbourne Cup (G1) two days ago and more rain is expected.

#2 MOONLIGHT MAID has excelled as the races grow longer. She passed 15 horses to get up time to win the E Manifold Stakes (G2) going a mile here then was a game second at Moonee Valley’s Vase Stakes (G2) in which she was hurt by the short homestretch. She comes back 11 days later and stretches out another three-sixteenths of a mile for Mitch Freedman (11 for 50 lately). Daughter of Puissance de Lune should not be affected by the wide draw, dropping back early with her run style, and Moonlight Maid will have no trouble getting to the better ground in the expansive Flemington homestretch.
#3 GAMAY broke her maiden as the heavy favorite in her third start then shipped here and won going nine furlongs in a wide trip from post 10. She won the Ethereal Stakes (G3) going 1 ¼ miles at Caulfield when she got up in time in a race that was slow early and fast late. Trainer Archie Alexander makes a major rider change and picks up Ryan Moore, and Gamay should get a covered-up trip from him.
#4 VEGAS JEWEL looked good when she won her first two career starts at long odds then showed it was not a fluke when she was a terrific second behind Gamay in the Ethereal Stakes (G3) going 1 ¼ miles at Caulfield from post 13 in a 15-runner field. She was a good second again at Flemington last time, but ran closer to the pace over a Soft turf course that she might see again today. Her sire, Shocking, won the Melbourne Cup (G1) and her dam is a half-sister to the dam of the immortal Winx.
Moonlight Maid is an improving filly who will relish the Oaks distance.
