Dick Powell’s Australian Pick of the Week for October 16

October 15th, 2019

Race 4 at Moe (Australia A) on Wednesday night is a benchmark 64 rating handicap going a mile around three tight left-handed turns. The track is expected to be “Good 4” so the ground should be fair to everyone.

Bet the race program at Moe here

#10 EL GUERROUJ is a lightly-raced three-year-old who should benefit from the Good ground. He broke his maiden two starts back going this distance when he went to the front and pulled away to an easy win. Last out at Flemington, he chased the pace before packing it in against much better company than these. El Guerrouj only picks up a pound despite the class dropdown and gets Brett Prebble back aboard, seven-for-50 of late.

#5 FUGA returned to the races off a long layoff with two even efforts against this class level. She was a sharp winner last out from post 10 as she went to the front and drew off to win by over six lengths. Fuga dropped down in class that day and now moves back up to this level while dropping two pounds. Daughter of Tavistock gets Jack Martin back aboard who will probably try to send her to the lead from post 3.

#6 RELIABELLE is a hard-knocking mare that has been up and down the class ladder and shows up here in good form. Off for 46 days, she was a good second two starts back at Moe going much longer after leading most of the way against this handicap level then she came back with a good second at Geelong. Despite having good speed, she is winless from nine starts on Good turf. But has performed well at the distance. Reliabelle has been taking money in each of her last three starts and should do so again today. Matt Allen, six-for-50 lately, picks up the mount.

El Guerrouj is still improving and should handle this class level.
