Race 5 at Hamilton (Australia A) on Wednesday night is a 5 1/2-furlong maiden race. The track is expected to be "Soft-6" so any form on less than firm ground will be of value. #6 SANTELME FUEGO showed good speed before weakening at long odds in his career debut at 101-1 odds. He came back seven months later and rallied from far back to miss by just over a length in a 16-runner maiden at Warmambool. His two career starts have earned solid speed ratings and he gets a major rider upgrade to Brad Rawiller – 14% the past 350 rides. If he shows the usual improvement second start off the layoff, he will be tough here from post 1. He should be a decent value play. #10 MAGIC REWARD is a speedball that could be tough to catch even if the ground is against him. She's been off since October 27 but ran well in both career starts last year on good ground when she was able to make the lead each time. Daughter of Reward for Effort had the benefit of three barrier trials last year before she began her career but comes in here fresh. She draws post 2 and should take these a long way. #5 LIVE LIKE has improved in each of his three career starts. He rallied two starts back at Geelong then came back there last month and showed better speed from the gate. Regular rider Craig Robertson returns from post 6 and if he can work out a stalking trip behind the speed, he has an upset chance against these.
