Dougie Sal's Sunday at Saratoga Two-Year-Olds

After an extended hot run through the summer on this blog, yesterday was a frustrating day, as our two top picks Two Weeks Off (9/5 odds) and King of New York (9/1 odds) both had to settle for second-place finishes.

However, opportunities in juvenile races are plentiful at Saratoga, and that's especially true today with five different 2-year-old races are carded, and I'm especially keen on two of them, so without any further ado, let's get to today's action.

Race 7 Maiden Special Weight at five and a half furlongs on the dirt:

In what appears to be a fairly loaded juvenile maiden race, Treasure (12/1 Morning Line) is bred extremely well for speed and precocity on the bottom of her pedigree. She's a half sibling to six different horses to race, and three of those won their career debut, while another finished third in his career debut, before rattling off three consecutive wins in career starts number two, three, and four.

Treasure has reportedly been outworking an older unraced Indian Charlie filly in the morning. Drawn favorably on the outside for connections that have clicked exceptionally well this year, Treasure is the top selection and clearly the horse you'd want to bet if she's close to those fat morning line odds.

For exotic wagering purposes, several horses have good underneath looks. Of the two Pletcher debuters, Blame Dixie is the horse who has trained better in the morning. In her most recent gate drill, Blame Dixie dusted an unraced full sibling to Dialed In.

Sophronia has some appeal. Her trainer has already popped with a two-year-old debut winner this meet. Her dam won her career debut by almost eight lengths and this is a half sibling to Wine Police, who won his career debut as a two-year-old at Saratoga by almost eight lengths, going this same distance. Soldat finishing second.

Super Saks is a daughter of hot sire Super Saver, and she has impressed clockers with her speed. At 15/1 on the Morning Line, it's hard to throw her entirely off the ticket.

Highly Conditional doesn't have stellar workout reports, but pedigree is absolutely sensational for a debut sprint. Her freshman sire Warrior's Reward has a dazzling seven different debut winners already. She's out a French Deputy mare, and French Deputy has mind-boggling stats as a broodmare sire of debuters.

Race 9 The Grade 2 Adirondak at six and a half furlongs on the dirt:

Simply put, this race is absolutely over-flowing with speed horses and stretch-outs. It's sure to be run at a scorching fast pace that will suit two horses in particular. Those two horses are Angela Renee and Wonder Gal. 

We will give the edge to Angela Renee, who is a full sister to the excellent juvenile To Honor And Serve. An impressive debut winner going five furlongs at Belmont in a tough race, Angela Renee showed the ability to rate and should very much enjoy the expected hot pace in front of her.

Wonder Gal is a very promising New York Bred from the barn of Sweet Reason. She rated extremely kindly and absolutely blew the field away in her debut, which came in a New York Bred stakes races.
