Exacta Bet of the Day for Saturday, September 14, at Woodbine

September 13th, 2019

This Saturday is the first of Woodbine’s important stakes days this fall, with four graded stakes on the 12-race card headlined by the $1 million Woodbine Mile (G1). The Woodbine Mile, on the grass for three-years old and up, is a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), and has drawn an excellent 11-horse field that you would expect from a Breeders’ Cup “Win & You’re In” Challenge race. Here are four horses to use in all of your Woodbine Mile exacta and exotics plays: WOODBINE RACE 9, WOODBINE MILE EXOTICS PICKS: SILENT POET (#3) (15-1) is a true Woodbine horse for the course that has five wins and two places in seven career outings on the Woodbine lawn, including a restricted stakes win at this trip last fall that showed he’s capable of successfully stretching to this one-mile distance. He’s two-for-two so far in his 2019 campaign including a seven-furlong stakes win last time in the Play the King Stakes (G2). Versatile runner go to the lead, or show tactical speed and press the pace, and rarely runs a bad race. SYNCHRONY (#4) (6-1) is a multiple graded winner on turf at Fair Grounds and Monmouth, and added Woodbine to the list of tracks where he’s a stakes winner last time out when he scored a sharp come-from-behind win here in a local one-mile prep for this in the King Edward (G2). In the money in 14 of 16 career turf starts, so he’s a great horse to include in your vertical exotics. Flavien Prat is at Woodbine for the mount. GOT STORMY (#5) (8-5) is a filly trained by Mark Casse who successfully conquered the boys last time out at Saratoga in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1), crushing the race by 2+ lengths in a field that included today’s Chad Brown-trained rival, Raging Bull. Has clearly never been better than this season (two-for-two) and ships in off of her best career race. Will not be beaten if able to repeat that most recent effort. Owns a win in her only prior lifetime outing at Woodbine with a victory in last year’s one-mile Ontario Colleen Stakes (G3). RAGING BULL (#7) (3-1) leads the two-pronged Chad Brown brigade in this race along with Made You Look (#9) (12-1), and seems to be the better of the pair. Makes sixth straight Grade 1 appearance since December when he was victorious in the Hollywood Derby (G1) at 1 1/8 miles at Del Mar. Lost a couple times to divisional-leading barn-mate Bricks and Mortar this season, so you know he’s been keeping top-rung company. At one-mile this year, he finished fourth but lost by less than two lengths in the Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) at Keeneland, and then finished second to Got Stormy last time out at Saratoga in the Fourstardave (G1). Makes first trip to Woodbine and reunites with former winning rider Joel Rosario, and is clearly one of the top horses to beat. Lock up all of the top contenders in this race by betting Silent Poet (#3) (15-1), Synchrony (#4) (6-1), Got Stormy (#5) (8-5) and Raging Bull (#7) (3-1) in exacta and/or trifecta boxes. Any of the other horses in the field would need to run career-best breakout efforts in order to hit the trifectas. If you are betting the exactas in the Woodbine Mile, you have to essentially be betting that Got Stormy will not win, because that’s the only way you could make any money, even if you are including her in your boxes. In such a big wide open field of 11 horses with several contenders, you might also be able to get some value in the other exotics. Best of luck!
