Fair Grounds Pick of the Week for March 16
Saturday's eighth race at Fair Grounds is an entry-level allowance for three-year-old fillies going about 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Trying the grass for the first time is #6 OUT FOR A SPIN (5-1), who has every right to move forward switching surfaces from the dirt.
Fifth in her debut going short at Churchill in November, Out for a Spin was slated to make her turf debut at Fair Grounds on December 29. However, inclement weather forced it to the main track, but that mattered little to the daughter of Hard Spun as she won by three lengths in the slop going 1 1/16 miles.
A distant third to the potential stakes-quality Tasting the Stars in her allowance debut on February 8, Out for a Spin could prove even more competitive on the turf. By Hard Spun, whose offspring include multiple Grade 1 winner Hard Not to Like and Arlington Million (G1) hero Hardest Core, she's out of turf winner My Mammy, who has already reared the multiple turf stakes winner Sweet Victory, who captured the $75,000 Honey Ryder and $200,000 Penn Oaks in 2016.
Trained by Dallas Stewart and again ridden by Corey Lanerie, Out for a Spin looms a major contender in her turf debut.
