Fillies Forge At Yonkers In New York Sires Stakes Episodes

The Hambletonian Oaks’ fields (including elims a week before the final) cannot host all of the glamour-girl trotters successfully involved in the New York Sires Stakes (NYSS) events at Yonkers on May 7 because in the three lucrative splits there are only six eligible (e) fillies. However, these NYSS races usually offer many wagering possibilities, since the Empire State-breds produce talented, bankable crops. In the first division, worth $53,833, there is a short field with a concentration on Stella Jane. She has to deal with Hanna Dreamgirl (e) and Sweet Chapter (e), the latter that could come up a price. Blake Macintosh’s Chapter Seven filly comes in from Canada, back home to begin her “Oaks” campaign offering a fair price to win in the short field. The next NYSS chapter ($54,833) sends six to post, only one with her eyes on the Oaks—Conway Kellyanne (e). Though she ended her frosh season working in the top class, she was not well-supported, even when she raced well (in a Bluegrass Stakes she went off 132-1 and finished second). With Out A Doubt also raced with classier types, though limited to NYSS action at two, and when she tanked it was usually due to her own mistakes. Helen Goldstein’s gait problems cost her at two but she made a good living finishing on the grid and has every reason to improve at three. Her odds will be higher than her chances, should she continue to show her gait is more promising this season. Completing the triad with a $54,833 division of six, we find half the field paying into the Oaks dream. Trond Smedshammer has a few looking to get him another Oaks champion. Among them is Winndevie (e), the predicted favorite. Winndevie was a bright frosh winner of six races in seven starts, winning the NYSS frosh final at Yonkers. Her threat in this field appears to be Quincy Blue Chip, who was second in that final. Whether or not they cancel one another out per dueling is unpredictable. For price and purpose, however, Pilgrims Lass (e) may find them less threatening at three. She ended her frosh campaign on the improve and with a lot of experience racing on many turns and the goal of an Oaks entry, Scott Andrews’ Muscle Mass filly may produce a big-priced win here.
