Frosh-Filly Trotters And Pacers Present Full Fields In Breeders Crown Eliminations—Offering Awesome Betting Opportunities

 

Here are races for the elimination-round weekend of the 2018 Breeders Crown Countdown (BCC), the exclusive blog that coordinates with our weekly harness blog at TwinSpires.com and the Hambletonian Society to find great wagering opportunities.

The divisions covered race Friday, Oct. 19 on the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs program; they are two-year-old filly trotters and pacers. Our major weekly blog preview will cover the remainder of the elims on Friday and all of Saturday. Both blogs will cover next week’s finals. FROSH-FILLY TROTTERS

There are three elim divisions for the two-year-old filly trotters, each with a $25,000 purse. Only six take part in this affair and the top three are obvious.

Starita returns after failing as the favorite at Lexington but is a serious contender and should make the final.

Special Honor, of course, has been a friend to our bankroll this season and as a member of the productive Julie Miller stable is among the top in the division and is raring to challenge the division’s leader (see elim three).

Ma Was Right is the third contender here. Her most recent three trips were long ones and she may come to post here as an outsider to the aforementioned. That could make her the choice to bet in a small field, as an upset and exotic-valued entity.

Seven go in filly-trot-elim two, all of them lesser-division members. Sonnet Grace (Ron Burke) and Asiago (Jimmy Takter) will be prominent in the wagering but are both to be challenged by foes—like Woodside Charm. Verlin Yoder’s filly is five for five and even as a third choice should be in the mix, if not on top of the heap, at the finish. As well, Princess Deo is a danger from outside, just missing to Asiago in Kentucky where she was the favorite.

Seven are aloft in the third frosh-filly trot, featuring division-leader The Ice Dutchess. We were all over her on Hambo day at 5-1, before the public made her the race choice six times afterwards. We beat her once with Tommi Canu Hearme at 39-1, when she broke. “Tommi” is in this field but not looking like she will do much.

Hot and offering a price will be Sister’s Promise. Linda Toscano’s gal caught our eye from her season’s start and she has been steady but for one break. She had a bad trip in a Bluegrass and won a Kindergarten easy last week, against softer. She could upset “The Ice” here, where one other that did—When Dovescry—will try again in this field and could help deliver Sister’s Promise a great trip to beat The Ice.


FROSH-FILLY PACERS

Two elim miles worth $25,000 each will decide this division’s final field. Eight in the first test include some familiar names, though only one from our running list of “The Fives.” That one is Annie Hill, who gets the rail.

Four wins in seven starts include her win last week at Lexington where she went against her toughest foes. Chris Oakes’ daughter of Captaintreacherous should get lots of action, maybe too much, leaving some bargain babies that are easily as good, if not better, than her right now.

Burke’s St Somewhere just won after getting back into shape from some problems. She could pick up some support off of that trip alone. Another Burke student, Sylph Hanover, has been in the mix a lot in 10 starts. As well, Treacherous Reign looks for a trip like she had in the “Great Lady” because that dead-heat second to Tall Drink Hanover (see elim two) could win this one.

We’ll look for Treacherous Reign to take third or fourth spot in the win pool and consider that a good bet.

The second filly pace also sends eight to the gate. What a wall of speed this field could provide as the gate unfolds. Last week Warrawee Ubeaut crushed a speed mark but here has to deal with some fiery femmes for control, including Renaissance Lady K, Beautyonthebeach, Money Shot Hanover, Tall Drink Hanover, Zero Tolerance and Art Lecture—all ready to use their early foot.


Burke’s She’s Allright could be the one finding the best path to pick up all the duelers and shufflers and finish before any of them. A good price is evident and rare for a Burke entry but this daughter of Sweet Lou is in a perfect spot to make the final with a win here and do it with a sharp reward for backers.
