Gulfstream: How to bet the 2022 Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes
A total of seven fillies and mares will dash five panels on the Gulfstream Park lawn in Saturday’s $100,000 Ladies Turf Sprint. Early speed is a big commodity in the turf sprints on the course, and I will give a slight edge to the pair of runners that I believe are the swiftest in the field, both of which will break from the outside.
#7 Sister Peacock lacks consistency on a whole, but the Stuart Simon trainee is fleet and also runs some of her best races while fresh. The six-year-old Real Solution mare makes her seasonal debut in this affair and comes in with some fine morning drills, including a blazing bullet move at Palm Meadows two back.
The Kentucky-bred has been second in both of her previous tries on the local lawn, and I feel that she will get the trip that she desires after being sent hard from the start under Emma-Jayne Wilson. Sister Peacock will be of good value, as well.
Eddie Plesa’s #6 Miss Auramet didn’t fire her best shot last time out, but she showed her class two back when blitzing allowance foes on the surface in gate-to-wire fashion. The chestnut six-year-old doesn’t need the lead in order to run big, but being prominent early on will boost her chances of a big payday with Julien Leparoux riding. She could peak in her third assignment off the long break.
Christophe Clement’s #2 Miss J McKay was a sharp stakes winner on the oval and at the distance last time out, and the daughter of Hangover Kid is a top-three must use on this occasion. The Maryland-bred mare has the best turn of foot in the field, and she continues to train in fast fashion. Tyler Gaffalione riding only adds to her appeal.
The wildcard in the field is Jorge Abreu’s #4 Guardian Moon, who is unbeaten from a pair of lifetime tries, both coming against New York-bred company. By Declaration of War, the four-year-old has been dominant to this stage of her development, and she could be almost any kind going forward. Luis Saez will guide the lightly raced filly.
