Handicapping the Pegasus World Cup Late Pick 5

There are plenty of enticing wagering options available on the back half of Saturday's blockbuster card at Gulfstream Park, including the 50-cent all-graded stakes Pick 5. Here's how we'll attack the sequence.

• 1,2,5,11 with 2,4 with 1,3,6,7 with 4,6,12 with 4 = $48.

Race 8 -- La Prevoyante (G3) -- 3:09 p.m. ET

#1 ALWAYS SHOPPING (3-1) has improved noticeably since adding blinkers and returning to the turf last fall, and is a head away from entering this on a three-win streak. Expect her good form to continue, but also wouldn't count out either #5 LOVELY LUCKY (10-1) or #11 TRAIPSING (4-1) to bounce back from recent disappointments with brave runs on the front end. Will also use the the ultra-consistent #2 SISTER HANAN (12-1), who's a question mark at the distance but has the potential to develop into a legit graded type if she can put together a full season.

Race 9 -- Inside Information (G2) -- 3:40 p.m. ET

#2 CINNABUNNY (3-1) the beaten favorite in the Sugar Swirl (G3) last time after a slow start, but eligible to bounce back in a race where many of the back-class sorts have questionable current form. #4 THISISMYTIME (7-2) tested for class here after two solid wins against lesser, but looks fast enough on paper to win this race which is rather soft for the graded ranking.

Race 10 -- W.L. McKnight (G3) -- 4:13 p.m. ET

#1 DOSWELL (7-2) a good second in his stakes debut in he Ft. Lauderdale (G2) last month and has the potential to get better. Strong works over the Palm Meadows turf coming in, with distance the only question mark here. Distance no issue at all for Northern Dancer Turf (G1) runner-up #6 SIR SAHIB (6-1) or #7 TIDE OF THE SEA (10-1), the latter of whom might found the 9-furlong Ft. Lauderdale too short after proving hard to settle early on. #3 MIRINAQUE (30-1) nearly won Argentina's most important grass race in late 2019 and curiously has not been tried on the turf since his importation. Form might perk up with the switch in surfaces.

Race 11 -- Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) -- 4:59 p.m. ET

The Todd Pletcher-trained #6 LARGENT (9-2) and #12 SOCIAL PARANOIA (8-1) love this course just as much as early favorite and stablemate #5 Colonel Liam and perhaps have an edge on seasoning over that younger rival as well. The regally-bred #4 NORTH DAKOTA (10-1) might prefer farther than this, but peaking at the right time for Shug and won't mind the likely stronger tempo in this shorter event.

Race 12 -- Pegasus World Cup (G1) -- 5:44 p.m. ET

Since its transformation from the Donn a handful of years ago, this race has generally showcased horses with significant class and/or speed advantages. Arrogate, Gun Runner, and City of Light were cases in point. No one will confuse #4 KNICKS GO (5-2) with those types, but the 5-year-old does seem to be going be better than these at the moment and has turned into a relative world beater since joining the Cox barn. Distance and limited prior success outside Keeneland are concerns, but best try will be difficult for the others to match.
