Hawthorne track update: Oct. 19, 2021

This weekend at Hawthorne, the third of the fall season, features a trio of turf stakes. With that in mind, let's check in on the connections and trends to watch!

Jockeys

Jareth Loveberry has carried his excellent form from the summer at Arlington to the fall at Hawthorne. He already has 13 wins (37 starts, 35% win rate, +20% ROI), more than twice as many as his closest pursuers, Chris Emigh (five wins, 20 starts, 25%, +12% ROI) and Julio Felix (five wins, 37 starts, 14%, -37% ROI).

There has been no turf racing yet at Hawthorne, so let's look at turf trends from recent meets.

Loveberry led all riders in fall of 2020, with six turf victories (41 starts, 15%, -41% ROI) — two in sprints and four in routes.

Last fall, Constantino Roman was a surprise in turf sprints. He won four of his 11 starts (36%), with a +214% ROI.

Going long, Javier Tavares (four wins, 19 starts, 21%) was tied for the most turf route wins last fall and also had a +294% ROI.

In spring of 2021, Loveberry took advantage of the few opportunities he had on the Hawthorne turf, with five wins from seven starts (71%, +53% ROI), including all three one-turn tries.

Jose Lopez won both of his turf races that meet, each at two turns.

Trainers

Jon Arnett has jumped to a quick lead in the trainer standings. He has four wins (17 starts, 24%, +4% ROI), including two with Hush Y'all. That has him one victory ahead of both Steve Manley (three wins, eight starts, 38%, +106% ROI) and Larry Rivelli (three wins, 10 starts, 30%, -1% ROI).

During the fall meet of 2020, Anthony Granitz led all trainers, with four turf wins (18 starts, 22%, +41% ROI). All four wins came from his 16 route starts.

Leonard Slager (three wins, six starts, 50%, +875% ROI) was sneaky and live in turf route races. In turf sprints, Rivelli (three wins, five starts, 60%, +156% ROI) and Fernando Bahena (two wins, six wins, 33%, +58% ROI) often intrigued.

During the spring meet of 2021, it was Rivelli (four wins, four starts, 100%, +90% ROI) and Christopher Davis (two wins, three starts, 67%, +303% ROI) who shined on the lawn. Three of Rivelli's wins came in sprints. Both of Davis' came at two turns.
