Holland's North America Racing Picks for July 3

July 3rd, 2020

Holland is looking to build the bankroll for the July 4th weekend with selections for multiple tracks today.

Gulfstream Park

Race 10

#9 Mr Matuschek (9-2) makes his first outing for trainer Danner and has not been seen since making late progress to finish third as the mild favorite at Keeneland in October in his second outing. Danner wins with 16% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and colt’s works include a sharp 4-furlong move in :47 4/5 on turf at Palm Meadows last month. Dark bay can be in good striking position with Panici in the irons.

Belmont Park

Race 9

Sprinters on grass include #7 Miss Auramet (6-1) who led from the start to win her latest on a sloppy main track at Gulfstream over 5-furlongs in mid-April. Daughter of Uncaptured has won 3-of-8 starts on turf and has been working well for her first start for trainer Duarte, who wins with 19% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and with three of 13 starters this meet. Chestnut figures to be the one to catch with Saez riding.

Laurel Park

Race 6

Trainer Trombetta wins with 17% of his second time starters and saddles #2 Eagle Keeper (6-1), who took betting action but was unplaced in his debut on grass here last month. Blinkers are added by Trombetta, who wins with 20% of his runners making this surface change. Son of Tiznow posted a bullet 4-furlong work in :48 4/5 from the gate a week ago and can show more here under Pimentel, who has won with 18% of his rides for the barn in the last two months.

Race 8

#7 Cordmaker (7-2) has a good record of 12-6-2-1 on this oval and was last seen when rallying from just off the pace to win at Delaware in September. Son of Curlin has been working well for trainer Jenkens, who wins with 22% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and has won with two of his first six starters at this meet. Chestnut can be in good position throughout with Cintron in the saddle.

Woodbine

Race 6

Blinkers are put back on #8 Barilko (10-1), who has been gelded since finishing unplaced in the Cup and Saucer Stakes on grass here in October. Son of Elusive Quality tries the main track for the first time and has been working forwardly for trainer Day, who wins with 13% of her runners that have not raced for 90+ days. 3-year-old can be running late under Wilson, who has won this meet for the stable.

Los Alamitos

Race 7

Trainer Palma wins with 12% of his first-time starters and saddles #7 Papa’s Honey (8-1), a debuting son of Papa’s Clem, whose offspring win 11% of their first outings. Dark bay worked 4-furlongs in a solid :47 3/5 five days ago for Palma, who wins with 17% of his runners in maiden special weight events. Gelding may win at first asking with Flores up.
