Churchill Downs

Race 5

#10 Shaka (15-1) tries turf for the first time and was last seen when making some belated progress while unplaced at Oaklawn in April in his fourth outing. Chestnut should be suited to the surface being by Curlin and a half-brother to four winners on grass, and trainer Maker wins with 18% of his runners first time on turf. Colt can be along from off the pace with Corrales in the irons.

Race 8

The last time #10 Snapper Sinclair (7-2) raced on turf he won the Tourist Mile at this distance at Kentucky Downs last August. Son of City Zip has failed to win since but finished a decent fifth in the Blame S. at Churchill in his latest last month and has posted two good 5-furlong works on grass recently for trainer Asmussen, who wins with 16% making this surface change. 5-year-old can be forwardly placed early under Santana, who has won with 17% of his rides for the barn in the last 60 days.

Laurel Park

Race 6

Trainer Duarte wins with 20% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and saddles #6 Makoto (8-1), who has not been seen since fading to finish unplaced in his debut on the main track at Monmouth in mid-September. Duarte won with two of his first four runners at this meet and son of First Samurai is out of Lakenheath, winner of the Arlington Matron (G3). $310K 2-year-old purchase has been working well and can be forwardly placed early with DeCarlo remaining aboard.

Los Alamitos

Race 1

Debutante #1 Kaely’s Candy (3-1) has a good win-early pedigree being by 17% first-out sire Twirling Candy and out of a mare by Yes It’s True, whose offspring win 14% of their first outings. 3-year-old is a half-sister to two winners and works include a sharp 4-furlong move in :47 4/5 from the gate for trainer Miller, who wins with 24% of his runners debuting in maiden claiming events. Bay appears ready to win at first asking with Gonzalez in the saddle.

Woodbine

Race 7

Sprinters on turf include #1 Miss Savvy (4-1), who may have needed her latest when weakening to finish third after dueling for the early lead on the main track earlier this month being her first outing since October. Daughter of Daaher has won one of five starts on this turf and trainer Tiller wins with 16% of his runners second off a layoff. Dark bay figures to be the one to catch with Wenc retaining the mount.

Ruidoso Downs

Race 4

#4 Myhotrodlincoln (5-2) was prominent from the start when third facing better over 5 furlongs in his latest in his first start since being claimed by Casey Lambert in March. Lambert has won with 24% of his runners at this meet and gelding has a record of 9-2-3-1 at this distance. Bay can be in good position throughout under Fuentes, who has won with four of his last nine rides for the barn.
