Holland's North American free racing picks for Aug. 13

August 13th, 2020

Saratoga

Race 5

#3 Robin Sparkles (5-1) gave way to finish unplaced after setting pressured early fractions in her debut over 6 1/2 furlongs at Belmont last month. Filly should be suited to sprinting on grass being by Elusive Quality and trainer Bruce Brown won with one of his first seven runners at this meet. Bay figures to be sent early with Jose Ortiz remaining aboard.

Race 10

Chad Brown wins with 29% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and saddles #10 Data Analytics (9-2), who has not been seen since finishing unplaced in her debut on the main track as the favorite at Belmont in October. Daughter of Into Mischief has been working well for Brown, who has won with 24% of his runners this year. Filly can be in good position throughout under Castellano, who has won with 30% of his rides for the barn in the past two months.

Indiana Grand

Race 1

Trainer Walker won with his one runner at this meet and saddles #7 Garden of Edna (15-1), a debuting daughter of young sire Bob’s Star, whose offspring have won 14% of their first outings. Walker won with one of his last eight first-time starters and filly is worth a look at likely good odds under Pompell, who was aboard for the barn’s recent winner here.

Race 2

#6 V J’s Bet (9-2) stretches out in distance off an unplaced effort over 5 1/2 furlongs at Churchill in mid-June. Mare has a record of 5-1-2-1 at this trip and trainer Walsh wins with 15% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. Daughter of Into Mischief can be near the front from the start with Parker in the saddle.

Race 8

Sprinters on turf include #10 Flat Meadow (4-1), who has not been seen since rallying from off the pace to win over the course and distance in mid-June. Dark bay has done best when given time between outings and trainer McKeever has won with three of his seven runners at this meet. Daughter of War Chant should find a decent pace to close into with Prescott retaining the mount.

Laurel Park

Race 5

Blinkers are added to #5 Loa (15-1), who was outrun from the start when last of six going 6 furlongs on the main track in her last month in her first outing since early February. Bay finished third in one previous start on turf and should be best on the surface being by Declaration of War and out of a mare by Smart Strike. Trainer Gaudet has won with 21% of her runners this year and 3-year-old can be forwardly placed early with Carrasco up.
