October 23rd, 2020

Tim Holland offers his free expert picks for this day of racing at Keeneland, Belmont Park, Laurel Park, and Woodbine.

Keeneland

Race 5

Maidens going 6 furlongs include #9 Bell Day (8-1), a debuting daughter of promising young sire Speightster, whose offspring have won 17% of their first outings. Dark bay is a half-sister to five winners, and works include a solid 4-furlong move in :47 2/5 from the gate here six days ago for trainer Norm Casse, who wins with 12% of his first-time starters. Filly appears ready for a good first outing under Talamo, who has won with one of his last six rides for the barn.

Race 9

#4 Lady Lawyer (5-2) made progress to finish fourth behind Got Stormy in the Ladies Sprint (G3) over 6 1/2 furlongs in her latest last month. Daughter of Blame is out of a half-sister to Blue Grass (G2) winner and leading sire Pulpit, and trainer Brown wins with 31% of his runners going from a sprint to a route. 4-year-old has won four of eight career starts and can be in good position from the start under Gaffalione, who has won with 33% of his rides for the barn in the past 60 days.

Race 10

Eddie Kenneally wins with 12% of his first-time starters and saddles #6 Foolery (8-1), a newcomer with a good win-early pedigree being by Distorted Humor and out of a mare by Tapit. Filly worked 4 furlongs in :47 3/5 from the gate earlier this month, and Kenneally wins with 17% of his runners in maiden special weight events. Chestnut can win at first asking with Beschizza in the irons.

Belmont Park

Race 10

Maidens on turf include #10 Ghost Stalker (15-1), who debuts for 18% first-out trainer George Weaver. Son of promising young sire Exaggerator is out of a Ghostzapper mare who has produced two winners on grass, and Weaver has won with 35% of his runners at this meet. $105K yearling purchase is a worth a shot at likely good odds under Saez, who has won with three of his last seven rides for this stable.

Laurel Park

Race 8

#3 Rock and Fellers (15-1) likely needed his latest when fading to finish unplaced over the track and distance earlier this month being his first outing in nearly two years. Son of Munnings won one of four starts on this oval and has a record of 8-3-2-1 at this distance. Gelding figures to be in front early and may be hard to catch with Karamanos retaining the mount.

Woodbine

Race 7

A competitive event over 6 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta main track includes #7 Amalfi Coast (6-1), who gave way to finish unplaced after being involved early in the Canadian (G2) over 9 furlongs on grass in her latest last month. Daughter of Tapizar won the Bessarabian (G2) over 7 furlongs on this oval last year when shortening up in distance off a win on turf, and trainer Attard has won with 15% of his runners at this meet. Chestnut should find a solid pace to close into under Stein, who has won with 23% of his rides for the barn in the past two months.
