October 3rd, 2020

With a full card of racing across North America that includes the Preakness Stakes, Tim Holland offers his free expert picks of the day at Pimlico, Keeneland, and Woodbine.

Pimlico

Race 4

#7 Vigilantes Way (9-2) won her one previous start on grass and easily defeated three rivals on the main track at this distance at Laurel in her latest last month. Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is a half-sister to Mr Speaker, who won the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) and trainer McGaughey wins with 20% of his runners in non-graded stakes. Bay has tactical speed and can be in good position throughout with Boyce retaining the mount.

Race 8

Trainer Delacour wins with 35% of his runners going a route for the first time and saddles #6 Arrest Me Red (6-1), who rallied from just off the pace to break his maiden over 5 1/2 furlongs at Laurel in late August. Delacour has won with 16% of his starters this year and son of Pioneerof the Nile is out of a half-sister to Apple Blossom (G1) winner Spun Sugar. Colt can be forwardly placed early with Pimental remaining aboard.

Race 10

Blinkers are added to #11 Perfect Alibi (10-1), who showed improvement in her latest after two sub-par efforts in her third start since finishing a good fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). Daughter of Sky Mesa won the Alcibiades (G1) last year and trainer Casse wins with 16% of his runners using blinkers for the first time. Dark bay could be ready for a top effort from off the pace with Lopez riding.

Race 11

#10 Pneumatic (20-1) was last seen when winning the Pegasus at Monmouth from just off the pace in mid-August in his first start since weakening late to finish fourth in the Belmont (G1) in June. Trainer Asmussen wins with 19% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and son of Uncle Mo is out of a half-sister to Pyro, who won the Forego (G1). Dark bay has been working well since his latest and, with plenty of early pace entered, should find a good stalking position with Bravo retaining the mount.

Keeneland

Race 6

Sprinters on grass for the Woodford (G2) include #4 Just Might (5-1), who weakened to finish third after vying for the early lead at this distance in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint (G2) at this distance at Churchill last month. 4-year-old defeated some others that return here when leading from the start in the Colonel Power at this distance at Fair Grounds earlier this year and is likely the one to catch with Hernandez again in the saddle.

Race 10

A competitive field for the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) includes #8 Analyze It (9-2), who returned from a long layoff to win the Red Bank (G3) from just off the pace in his latest at Monmouth Park last month. 5-year-old has a record of 5-3-0-1 at this distance and trainer Brown wins with 29% of his runners that won last time out. Bay has tactical speed and can be in good position throughout under Gaffalione, who has won with four of his last eight rides for the barn.

Woodbine

Race 6

Maidens on turf include #8 Designer Ready (6-1), a debuting daughter of Tapit who is out of Alcibiades winner Bel Air Beauty, who is the dam of dual Kennedy Road (G2) winner Stacked Deck. Works include a sharp 5-furlong move in :59 3/5 for trainer Minshall, who wins with 9% of her first-time starters. Filly may be ready to win at first asking with Husbands taking the mount.
