Holland's North American free racing picks for Sept. 17

Tim Holland has a couple of picks for the opening day at Churchill Downs, as well as spot plays for Arlington Park and Indiana Grand.

Churchill

Race 8

#3 Box of Chocolates (8-1) was reclaimed by John Ortiz when fading to finish fourth over 6-furlongs on the main track at Saratoga in his latest in July and will try turf for the first time. Son of 13% grass sire Candy Ride is a full-brother to Leofric, who won the Clark (G1), and Ortiz wins with 18% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. Dark bay can be along from off the pace under Saez, who has won with three of his last nine rides for the barn.

Race 9

Trainer Correas wins with 13% of his first-time starters and saddles #8 Super Sport (6-1), a debuting daughter of promising young sire Not This Time, whose offspring have won 28% of their first outings. Dark bay cost $240K as a yearling and works include a fast 4-furlong move in :46 3/5 from the gate at Keeneland last month for Correas, who wins with 12% overall in maiden special weight events. Filly appears ready for a good first outing with Talamo in the saddle.

Indiana Grand

Race 3

Blinkers and Lasix are added to #5 Brew Pub (5-1), who tries the main track for the first time off a second-place finish after vying for the early lead on turf at Ellis the second time out in early-July. Trainer Kobiskie wins with 18% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and has won with four of his 13 starters at this meet. Son of Street Sense cost $310K as a yearling and can be on or near the lead from the start under apprentice Wiseman, who won with his latest ride for this stable.

Arlington Park

Race 3

#5 West Sider (9-2) switches to turf off a weakening third-place finish on the main track at Indiana last month in his first start since being claimed by Genaro Garcia. Colt should excel on turf being by Uncle Mo and out of a mare by Elusive Quality, and Garcia wins with 22% of his runners second time off the claim. Bay can be along from off the pace with Roman riding.

Race 8

Maidens on the Polytrack include #12 My Boss Lady (12-1), a debuting daughter of 15% first out sire Street Boss and out of a mare by Malibu Moon, whose offspring win 13% of their first outings. Filly has been working well for trainer Mason, who has won with 21% of her runners at this meet and wins with 13% of her first-time starters. Bay appears ready for a good first outing under apprentice Roberts, who has won with 21% of his rides for the barn in the past 60 days.
