Holland's North American free racing picks for Sept. 19

Churchill Downs

Race 9

#8 Loving Moment (10-1) was not a serious threat when sixth facing tough company at Indiana in her latest in mid-July. Daughter of Uncle Mo finds a slightly easier spot for trainer Reed, who wins with 19% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. 5-year-old should find a decent pace to close into and gets Geroux in the saddle.

Race 10

#9 Rye Humor (5-1) was not a threat when unplaced on grass at Ellis in his latest in late July, but was making his first start since finishing third in his debut behind the talented Global Campaign on the main track at Gulfstream nearly 19 months earlier. Son of Distorted Humor makes his first start in a maiden claimer and recent works include a sharp 5-furlong move at Keeneland in :59 2/5 for trainer Wilkes, who has won with 14% of his runners this year. Gelding can be along from off the pace with Leparoux remaining aboard.

Belmont Park

Race 10

Trainer Matties won with two of his last 12 first-time starters and saddles #8 Generalonamission (20-1), a debuting son of Mission Impazible and a half-brother to Sam F. Davis (G3) winner Vinceremos. Gelding has been working forwardly for Matties, who won with one of his first six runners this year and with one of his last 15 starters on grass. Chestnut may be ready for a good first outing under Hernandez, who was aboard for the barn’s most recent winner.

Woodbine

Race 7

A competitive field for the Singspiel (G3) includes #8 Count Again (20-1), who was narrowly unable to overcome very slow early fractions when closing to finish second over the course and distance last month. Son of Awesome Again is a half-brother to dual Bing Crosby (G1) winner Ransom the Moon and makes his stakes debut for trainer Gail Cox, who wins with 14% of her runners on grass. Gelding should find a faster pace to run into here with Contreras retaining the mount.

Race 9

Chad Brown wins with 27% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and saddles #7 Value Proposition (6-1), who was last seen when third after late traffic trouble in the Poker (G3) at this distance at Belmont in early July. Son of Dansili is a half-brother to Speedy Boarding, who won the Prix Jean Romanet (G1), and has won three of five starts for Brown, who has won with 24% of his runners this year. Dark bay can get a good trip with Contreras riding.

Gulfstream Park

Race 9

#5 The Great Oz (3-1) chased the leaders from the start when second in his debut over 5 1/2 furlongs here last month. Son of good young sire Liam’s Map is a half-brother to three winners, and trainer Plesa wins with 21% of his second-time starters. $130K purchase earlier this year can be in good position throughout with Torres remaining aboard.

Arlington Park

Race 8

Maidens on grass include #9 Flaming (12-1), who was never a factor after a poor start in her debut over 6 furlongs on the main track at Hawthorne in November. Filly should take to turf being by Summer Front and out of a mare by More Than Ready, and works include a sharp 4-furlong move in :47 4/5 a few days ago for Barr Inman, who won with three of his last 17 runners that had not raced for 90+ days. Filly can show more here under Felix, who was aboard for the barn’s one winner at this meet.
