Holland's North American free racing picks for Sept. 25

Tim Holland has a pair of selections for Churchill Downs on Friday, as well as picks for Pimlico, Belterra Park, and Santa Anita.

Churchill Downs

Race 9

#3 My Gal Betty (8-1) makes her second start for trainer Kenneally off a closing fourth place finish in the 6-furlong Satin N Lace S. over the all weather surface at Presque Isle last month in her first start since October. Daughter of Point of Entry is a half-sister to So Long George, who won with Nijinsky (G2), and Kenneally wins with 23% of his runners second off a layoff. Filly has won two of her six starts on grass and can be along from off the pace under Gaffalione, who has won with three of his last six rides for the barn.

Race 10

Maidens on the main track include #6 Entreat (4-1), who debuts for 20% first-out trainer Chad Brown. Filly has a good win-early pedigree being by Speightstown and out of a mare by Exchange Rate, and she has been working well for Brown, who has won with four of 10 starters at this meet. Dark bay appears ready to win at first asking with Gaffalione riding.

Pimlico

Race 2

#3 Zola B (3-1) has not raced since finishing fifth after a rough trip over a mile at Laurel in late-July in her second outing. Daughter of 12% grass sire Jimmy Creed is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Alwaysmining and trainer O’Dwyer wins with 13% of his runners on turf. Chestnut can be along from off the pace with Russell riding.

Belterra Park

Race 3

Trainer Wilson won with his most recent first-time starters and saddles #4 Perk the Gents Up (8-1), a debuting daughter of 10% first-out sire Shakin It Up, who is out of a mare by Ghostzapper. Dark bay has been working forwardly at the Thoroughbred Center and is worth a look at likely good odds with Miranda in the irons.

Santa Anita

Race 7

Peter Miller excels with his sprinters on turf and saddles #4 Grit and Curiosity (6-1), who comes off a pair of wins in tough allowance events on dirt at Oaklawn, rallying from off the pace in February. Son of Mach Uno finished second at Kentucky Downs in a previous turf start and Miler wins with 16% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Gray should find pace to close into with Saez aboard.
