Holland's North American Racing Picks for June 19

June 19th, 2020

Tim has a couple picks for Churchill Downs today, as well as a spot play for Belmont Park, Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Woodbine, and Ruidoso Downs.

Churchill Downs

Race 4

#3 Midnight Fantasy (9-2) finished well when a close second over 5-furlongs here last month. Daughter of Midnight Lute has won five of 14 career starts for trainer Sharp, who has won with 22% of his runners at this meet. Gray has tactical speed and can be running from just off what should be a solid pace with Garcia retaining the mount.

Race 5

Trainer Proctor wins with 24% of his maiden claimers and saddles #6 Freshman Class (9-2), who showed improvement when second as the favorite in her latest over the track and distance in her first try at this level. Daughter of Union Rags cost $250K as a yearling and posted a sharp 3-furlong work in :34 3/5 two days ago for Proctor, who wins with 24% of his runners that were beaten as the favorite last time out. Filly can be closer to the early leaders with Lanerie again in the saddle.

Belmont Park

Race 9

3-year-olds sprinting on turf include #4 Guildsman (7-2), who closed to finish third after a slow start and being steadied on the turn in her latest at Churchill last month. Gelding finished a close third in the Coventry (G2) at Royal Ascot in one of his six starts in Europe before joining trainer Walsh, who has won with 19% of his runners this year. Bay can be along from off the pace with a better trip under Saez.

Gulfstream Park

Race 8

#8 Fly On Angel (6-1) tries turf for the first time and has not been seen since fading to finish fourth in the Gin Talkin S at Laurel in late-December. Dark bay has a decent pedigree for grass and worked 4-furlongs in a good :47 nine days ago for trainer Preciado, who wins with 13% of his runners making their turf debut. Filly can be in good position throughout with Lopez in the irons.

Laurel Park

Race 3

Maidens going 6-furlongs include #6 Tellmeonasunday (6-1), who debuts a debuting daughter of 12% first out sire Quality Road. A half-sister to two winners, 3-year-old cost $190K as a yearling and has been working well for trainer Delacour, who wins with 16% of his first-time starters and with 23% in maiden special weight events. Filly appears ready to win at first asking with Boyce riding.

Woodbine

Race 5

#6 Cohiba Ghost (2-1) may have just needed his latest when fading to an unplaced finish on turf at Laurel early this month, his first outing since last June. Son of Ghostzapper finished a close second in one previous start on an all-weather surface and trainer Trombetta wins with 14% of his runners second off a layoff. 4-year-old can be along from off the pace with Husbands aboard.

Ruidoso Downs

Race 4

Trainer Fincher wins with 31% of his first-time starters and saddles #8 Dan Who (5-2), a debuting daughter of young sire Abstraction. A half-brother to one winner, gelding has been working well here for Fincher, who has won with 19% of his starters at this meet and who wins with 34% of his runners overall in maiden special weight events. Bay can win his debut under Juarez, who has won with one of his last seven rides for the barn.
