Handicapper Tim Holland has a couple of selections for Keeneland Wednesday, as well as picks for Parx and Presque Isle Downs.
Keeneland
Race 4
Eddie Kenneally wins with 12% of his first-time starters and saddles #5 Conformist (8-1), a debuting son of young sire Hit It a Bomb, whose offspring have won 17% of their first outings. Gelding is a half-brother to one winner and posted three good 5-furlong works here for Kenneally, who wins with 20% of his runners overall in maiden claiming events. $40K weanling purchase appears ready for a good first outing with Gaffalione taking the mount.
Race 7
#3 Union Maiden (6-1) was last seen when third in an even effort at this distance at Saratoga early last month. Daughter of Union Rags cost $425K last year and has been working well here for trainer Brown, who wins with 27% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. Filly should get a good trip from just off the pace under Gaffalione, who has won with 29% of his rides for the barn in the past two months.
Parx Racing
Race 7
#4 Chilly in Charge (9-2) may have needed his latest when unplaced on grass at Belmont last month in his first outing since December. Son of Take Charge Indy has won once from three starts on this main track and trainer Vera wins with 28% of his runners making this surface change. Dark bay finished a close second to the decent runner Honest Mischief last year, and he can be along from off the pace with Sanchez in the saddle.
Presque Isle Downs
Race 4
Maidens on the all-weather Tapeta surface include #9 In Moderation (5-1), a debuting daughter of 12% first-out sire Even the Score, who is a half-sister to nine winners. Works include a sharp 5-furlong move in :58 1/5 here five days ago for trainer Potts, who wins with a high 32% of his newcomers. Gray is likely ready for a good first outing with Villa-Gomez up. #12 Cloud Ten (10-1) has not been seen since closing to finish fourth in his debut at Fair Grounds in December. Daughter of young sire Gleneagles is out of a daughter of Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour and trainer Proctor wins with 18% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Bay has been working well and can be running late under Hernandez, who has won with two of his last four rides for the barn.
